SOS Summit

The latest data from the CDC indicates Southern States as the most obese in the nation. These recent rankings showed all but one Southern state being in the top ten states with the highest rates of obesity, each having more than 25% of adults as obese. Our obesity culture is eroding the health of families and children across the South and we must act now to ensure the health of children for generations to come.

The 2010 Southern Obesity Summit will convene 16 southern states to:

  • Promote cross-sector collaboration and partnerships to prevent obesity
  • Provide opportunities for practitioners to share successful policy and community-based intervention strategies
  • Define a Southern Strategy to encourage effective inter-state initiatives and collaboration

What 2009 SOS participants had to say...

"The meeting was far above any expectations that I had. I hope to become better informed and gain more vision for my community. I moved from a city to a community of 7,000. Rural Health Care is a new and greater challenge" Participant from Texas

"Thank you for such inspiring key notes, great breakouts and as usual, the southern hospitality!" Participant from Oklahoma

'...as an exhibitor, we were extremely pleased with the layout of having the exhibits truly a part of the meeting and not just an off-site exhibit area. GREAT networking throughout the summit for those of us exhibiting. Able to talk with folks several times and build relationships instead of rushing through items in a one shot manner. Thank you very much!" Participant from Florida
